Oktoberfest and Upcoming Event; Halloween

It is October and here some festivals will remind you orange, brown and green rainbow. The traditions, the history behind Oktoberfest and Halloween events and how to celebrate them?

It is autumn, the season of pumpkins, witches and rain. From the first words, I know you imagined everything with more details such as a cup of tea, thick clothes and socks and a cat or dog. But today’s topic is the Oktoberfest and Halloween. These two main events are one of the first words to come the mind when someone thinks the autumn, right?

The first one is the Oktoberfest. Let's start with the historical background of the festival. Oktoberfest is a wedding ceremony. Prince Regent Ludwig, the crown prince of Bavaria and Princess Therese Von Sachsen Hildburghausen married on October 12th, 1810. It took five days and It was like a festival. Moreover, at the last, they added the horse race and name after “ Therese’s Green”. In the following years, people wanted it again because they had fun. Without a royal wedding or festival, they wanted an organization. But their plans fell off because of the war. In the following years, they attempted to make this happen, but the wars and cholera made them a bad surprise. So they created the small organization in 1850 but after following years they made up for it. They began with roasted chicken and every year they added lots of spirits to the festival. The costumes, performances and of course the beer!

But in the 20th century, they encountered problems just because of world wars, so they got cancelled. Everything was fine after the wars as far as they thought like that. They decided to new attempt at the festival in 1980. What happened this time? The bomb exploded in the main place of the festival! Don’t worry after that date they celebrated it well, every year it becomes a more popular event ever. And until this date, it keeps on growing and glowing.

Then after all the historical information, how to celebrate Oktoberfest? okay first need is the Beer. Yes, it is funny, right? But that is true. After the wedding, people wanted it again as I said right? But they wanted more and more beer. Then let’s talk about the celebrations of Oktoberfest. It is the festival that lots of countries in the world celebrate such as Christmas. So while I am talking about the celebrations It will be based on Berlin’s celebrations because it is the place where that festival originated. The beers in giant glasses, the music and the games and rides for both old and young generations. Chicken dances, gingerbread necklaces and a giant tent which is decorated in old traditions. Mostly the mayor of the town taps the first keg and it means that the festival has begun. The people wear traditional, old-period costumes. Men wear a pair of shorts or pants which are traditional clothes. white shirt, very long socks and boots.

The women wear the dress that you most probably saw in middle age movies. White cotton dress but also there is another colour dress on it. Full skirt with an apron that you tie. That means that you are single or married. And the food, food has to be a good partner to beer. Everything is decided according to the beer. Breezel , gebrannte mandeln. After that the chicken dance. Just need your fingers and a lot of energy! Then you are ready.

Halloween

Halloween as all we know and celebrated on the last day of October. People are getting so excited and hilarious though. Costumes are mostly a little bit scary as they need to be. But why does it sound scary? Or more mysterious? This relies on the historical background. Samhain in Britain and Ireland used to celebrate it as a festival just because after this festival It was the beginning of New Year's Eve. Because winter’s beginning also means to new period. Then you will ask what is the point linked to scary themes and ghosts? Okay, the whole story is about the belief in Halloween. The belief is; that the souls of the dead people would return to visit their homes. So people use bonfires on hilltops to frighten away evil spirits. They wear masks and costumes that will make them unrecognizable by ghosts. The costumes were witches, goblins, fairies, demons and devils. It said that this festival was brought by the Romans when they conquered the Celts. Moreover, the colonists in America also invented festivals inspired by Halloween. Now in Britain, it is being celebrated as a secular holiday. And that famous prank invented; tricks or treaters. Then what would you choose trick or treat?

Another untold story about Halloween is that about the witches. In the past, as all of you know witches were burned by uneducated people. Even healer women were burned just because they used the medical treatments as we know them modern methods now. But in this period people were dying even though they were flu. So tiny development in medicine especially if this development was made by women there was something which was absolutely witchcraft. In further times , that women were burned alive . So some sources offer that idea. At least we can Halloween is inspired by these cases.

In modern life, it didn’t change at all. People wear scary costumes like witches, cartoon characters, viral moments or movie characters. Parties, decorations and more. If you want to make a costume for Halloween You can use the wasted materials with paint.

So, this year what are you planning to wear or to be?
